A very fine work by this eminent artist, the ivory is set in the original bracelet clasp frame.

Additional Information: Joseph was one of the twelve children of John Sage and his wife Elizabeth, nee Beresford who married in 1739. They lived in London, close to St. Vedast’s Church, Foster Lane, where all their twelve children were christened.
In 1779 Joseph married Sarah Shakespear, daughter of London Rope Maker, Alderman John Shakespear and his wife Elizabeth (nee Currie) Joseph worked for fifty years at the Royal Mint, where he rose to the position of Assay Master (1779-1820.)
They had two sons, Joseph White Sage b. 1784 and Richard Palmer Sage.
Both sons seem to have worked for the East India Company.
Joseph White married in Calcutta in 1802 and Richard married in Bengal in 1846.
