George Francis Joseph A.R.H. A pretty young lady in white.1793

A lovely miniature by this rare Irish artist. It is signed and dated '93, on the obverse and has a very attractive back with a two coloured hair surround and blue glass central panel with a gold monogram.

Katherine was married in 1761 to Thomas Powney, who was a merchant in India from about 1750. They had one son Thomas, christened in 1775 in Madras. Her husband died in 1780.There is a tomb called the 'Powney vault' in Madras.The miniature is set in its original gold locket frame inscribed on the reverse with the sitter's details.
