This lovely miniature is a fine example of the work of Peter Paillou junior.R.A. 1786-1800.It is very well painted and shows the sweet face of the young lady beneath her extravagently plumed wide-brimmed hat.It is set in a period locket frame, the reverse bearing the initials 'J.H.' on an oval of blue glass, on opaline which carries a lovely two coloured hair panel. This lovely miniature was painted by Jean towards the end of the eighteenth century after an earlier portrait of her, taken around 1770 at which time she was about 34-5 years old.If the original portrait was much later than that, it was certainly a flattering likeness!
